What Will I Learn?
As a student studying geography at Heartland Community College, you will be introduced to world geographic structures and regions particularly as they relate to world cultures. Advanced courses offer a look at relationships between economic activities and geographical associations including trade and transportation routes, economic interdependence of nations and geographical influence on world conditions as well as a geographical study of state, national and world regions with political emphasis in geographical implications on political structures.
What Is The Occupational Outlook?
Job seekers with a background in geography can be employed in a variety of areas including geographic information systems, surveying, cartography, and photogrammetry.
In 2006 in the State of Illinois, the median annual salary was $47,649 for surveyors, $49,948 for cartographers and photogrammetrists, and $66,963 for geographers. 1
What Are My Options?
The Associates Degree with emphasis in Geography is designed for students planning to complete the first two years of study leading to a baccalaureate degree and major in social science at a four-year college or university.
