What Will I Learn?
As a student studying economics at Heartland Community College, you will be introduced to the principles of microeconomics which include utility, supply and demand and product and resource pricing, and, the principles of macroeconomics which covers the national income accounting, employment theory and fiscal and monetary policies. An advanced course offering covers the comparative analysis of several types of economic systems.
What Is The Occupational Outlook?
Job seekers with a background in economics should have good opportunities, although some of these opportunities will be in related occupations. Some examples of job titles often held by those with an economics background are financial analyst, market analyst, public policy consultant, researcher or research assistant, and econometrician.
In 2006 in the State of Illinois, the median annual salary was $80,733 for economists, $63,125 for financial analysts, $53, 216 for market research analysts, and $28,048 for social science research assistants. 1
What Are My Options?
The Associates Degree with emphasis in Economics is designed for students planning to complete the first two years of study leading to a baccalaureate degree and major in economics at a four-year college or university.
