Good Morning and Welcome!

Dear HCC Faculty, Administration and Staff,

Welcome to the Instructional Development Center (IDC). We are part of the Academic Support Division at Heartland Community College and are located in the Student Commons Building (SCB) room 2401. We can be accessed by using your classroom key. The IDC is dedicated to assisting faculty, both full-time and adjunct, with their overall teaching and learning needs. We hope to be able to help you with "The five S's": having an understanding of both Self and Students, developing your Syllabus and your overall course, finding Sources connected to the teaching and learning process, and conducting aSsessments at the student, faculty, course, program, division and college levels.

The IDC consists of three functional areas. There is a computer area where faculty can use scanning equipment, use audio/video capture equipment, or simply use the computers. Additionally, there is a meeting area where faculty can schedule formal meetings with colleagues, review library resources connected to the teaching and learning process and chat with colleagues over a cup of coffee in our comfortable lounging area. Finally, there is a "micro-teaching laboratory" or mock classroom where faculty can practice their delivery, learn to use a variety classroom media, or schedule a teaching and learning assessment with peers and/or IDC staff.

The Center will also sponsor a series of workshops each semester designed around teaching and learning topics and the WebCT course management system. Additionally, we will sponsor an informal monthly "Brownbag Lunch" series where faculty can talk to each other about their teaching. Finally, our staff will make themselves available during "drop-by" hours in order to help faculty with specific needs.
