Web Design Tips
These tips are suggestions for clean web design.
- Keep pages clean. White space is good.
- Keep the content on each page limited and focused. People don't like to read more than necessary.
- Web pages with large amounts of text should be clearly broken up and organized.
- Avoid huge titles. Exceptionally large titles are not any more emphatic than moderately large.
- Never use underlining. Underlining looks suspiciously like hyperlinks. Users tend to be confused, especially if they are colorblind.
- Do not use italics for emphasis. Blocky text is more emphatic than italics. Italics is for titles and scientific names.
- Use large or bold fonts sparingly. Large sections of text should never be bold or large, because the text becomes less readable.
- Avoid creating an internet ad atmosphere: sounds, blinking, animation, popups, and bright color combinations. These features tend to make a page appear less professional.
- Speed up the load time of your web page by scaling down your images to be the size they are displayed at. Large images that are displayed small still take the same amount of time as when the are displayed big.
