上海英语教师提高项目是由我们的上海办公室和上海师资培训中心共同合作的。该项目从2001年开始至2006年，合作期为5年。主要目标是充分利用英国的英语教学资源，对上海市中小学英语教师进行英语水平和教学技能的提高培训，并建立若干个高质量英语教师培训基地，充分发挥示范和辐射作用。
首批40教师培训者已经分别在英国的3所培训机构（the College of St. Mark&St.John, Warwick University and Bell Educational Trust)接受了为期12个星期的关于英语教学方法和教师培训的培训。自2002年11月起，其中部分经验比较丰富的培训者已经开始设计课程并开展了一些试验课程。2003年1月，3所培训机构的3名代表应邀对这些试验课程进行了评估。现在相应的培训课程已分别在小学、初中和高中开展。
随着项目的进行和在英国接收培训的教师的逐渐增加，上海师资培训中心将在下属19个区内全面开展在职英语教师和教研员的培训工作。
