WHAT IS ATHENS?

Athens is a management system for web-based subscription services which allows you to have remote access from home or your workplace with just one username and one password. In this context, Athens does not mean the capital of Greece!

HOW DO I JOIN?

  • You need to be a member in the Learning Zone in order to obtain the remote access which will enable you to access our e-library from home, work, or anywhere you choose. For more information on how to become a member please look at our Learning Zone page.
  • Once you take up library membership you need to fill in a registration form ,give it to the librarian in the Learning Zone and then you will be given your unique logins.
  • Click on the login link and enter your username and password.
  • Then choose any of the available resources in which you’re interested and enjoy it.

For non-members, we can provide a free onsite access to this service,  but you will not be able to access the resources from outside the Learning Zone.

Your Athens username and password is strictly confidential and should not be shared with anyone . Any abuse of this condition will lead to the withdrawal of your subscription.

WHAT IS AVAILABLE?

At the moment we have subscribed to four online databases as follows

Ashridge Virtual Learning Resource Centre (AVLRC)

This e-resource provides learning guides, resources including career material, publications, reports, in-house academic publications and a link to a full-text article database containing 200 top business and management journals, summaries and reports.

It includes some computer software guides as well. It also presents up-to-date reviews of new titles on sale and the 10 best selling titles in the Learning Resource Centre bookshop.

Infotrac (Thomson Gale)

This is a database of 1,000 journals, mostly full- text, covering wide range of subjects. Provides access to over 4,000,000 articles. Members can also access customised newspaper database which has about 44 British newspapers in full-text.    

Ebrary

A collection of over 60,000 titles including over 23,000 full text electronic books and other documents from more than 200 of the world's leading academic, STM, and professional publishers. Collections span virtually every area of academic study.   

Xreferplus

Currently offering 147 books from 30 world class publishers xreferplus  offers unrivalled coverage of all major academic subject areas combined with powerful search methods unique to xrefer.
