The Certificate of Advanced English is recognised by the majority of British universities as fulfilling their English Language entrance requirements. It is high level qualification suitable for people who need English for professional of study purposes.
If you are studying English at this level for personal reasons, you may find that it is difficult to measure your progress. There is a big jump between FCE, the most popular and widely recognised qualification in the Cambridge suite, and CPE, the most advanced. The CAE exam offers a challenge to help you make the transition to the most advanced level and covers language that you will find useful in real life situations of work or travel.
CAE is the fourth of five levels in the Cambridge Main Suite of English language exams. It corresponds to Council of Europe level C1 and the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) Level 4
WHAT THE EXAM INVOLVES?
There are five parts to the exam, each worth 40 marks.
Paper1 Reading I hour 15 minutes
Paper 2 Writing 2 hours
Paper 3 Use of English I hour 30 minutes
Paper 4 Listening 45 minutes
Paper 5 Speaking 15 minutes

GETTING YOUR RESULTS
All written papers are sent to Cambridge to be marked and results are released approximately eight weeks after the exam date. They will first be sent to the British Council and we will then forward them to your home address.
Results are reported as three passing grades (A, B and C) and two failing grades (D and E). The minimum successful performance which a candidate typically requires in order to achieve a Grade C corresponds to about 60% of the total marks.
