Access English is a 4-year project developed and run by the British Council in partnership with ministries of education in 9 countries in East Asia: Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, The Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
Although there is great diversity in the region, what the above countries share is a need for support in developing national English Language Teaching agendas at both primary and secondary level. The project aims to provide support to changes in English Language Teaching in three areas: support for policy makers, support for teacher educators and support for teachers.
For more details about the project in Vietnam, please contact Nguyen Mai Hoa.

Support for Teachers
We are conducting research in key areas to support offices of education in their planning and to inform policy making. Activities to date include:
We are working with the Ministry of Education and Training and a number of Higher Education institutions in Hanoi, Danang and Ho Chi Minh City to run Primary Innovations, a trainer training course which aims to create a cadre of 41 Primary English Language Teaching Specialists. This course will equip participants with the necessary skills, knowledge and confidence to deliver workshops and teacher training courses to other primary English teachers in their local area.
We are also working with an established group of trainers from Vietnam’s English Teacher and Training Network (VTTN) to roll out Classroom Language training for secondary teachers of English in 11 provinces throughout the country. The aim of this training is to develop the skills of a core group of trainers who will then hold workshops in the provinces to develop local teachers’ confidence in using English in the classroom.
We are also working with a team of local co-ordinators to create a Virtual Teacher Support Network. This online network will provide local secondary school teachers of English with supplementary teaching materials from British Council web sites which link directly back to the Tieng Anh coursebooks for Grades 10, 11 and 12. They will also provide teachers with the opportunity to access articles on the latest teaching methodologies, discuss issues and share ideas.Open the original version of this page.
