ENGLISH FOR INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS

English for Adults

COURSE AIM

Business English is a skills-based course designed to help you develop your business communication skills and knowledge in the workplace. Course materials contain authentic texts, realistic scenarios, and real-life case studies to provide valuable practice of key business skills, vocabulary and grammar that you need to enhance your future career prospects.

What is the difference between Business English and General English?

The difference isn’t very big. Like our General English courses, the Business Courses are topic-based, but the topics are all related to the world of work (e.g. marketing, finance). Both courses will help you develop and practise your language skills, but the Business English courses possibly places a bit more emphasis on vocabulary.

Who can register for a Business English Course?

Our Business English courses are aimed at adults who regularly use English at work or who want to develop their English language skills in order to improve their career prospects (future opportunities). You don’t need to know a lot about business to join the course, but you should have some experience of the world of work.

What is a ‘modular’ course?

It is a ‘circular’ course (see below) made up of four separate modules and you can join the course at any point in the cycle. You do not ‘move up’ from one module to the next and if you complete all four modules, you then retake a Placement Test. The test result will tell you if your level is good enough for you to study at the next Business English Level or if you should take a General English course first.

How will I know if I am making progress?

There is no test at the end of a Business English Course. Instead, your teacher will monitor your participation and progress and give you a brief end-of-course report highlighting your main language strengths and areas for improvement. You will also get individual counselling and advice on how to develop your English.
