student e-news - November 2006

November 2006

Celebrate International Education Week! Every November,
schools, non-profit organizations and government around the world celebrate the
benefits of international education and academic exchange.

International Education Week also marks the annual launch of the Institute of
International Education's
Open Doors Report on study abroad. We're pleased to
announce that once again, the UK is the number one study-abroad destination for
US students.

So, in the spirit of International Education Week, here's a little pop quiz: which of the
following studied in the UK?

▪ Brad Pitt
▪ George Stephanopolous
▪ Bill Clinton
▪ Mischa Barton

Did you guess that all of them did? You're right! The OC's Mischa Barton spent last
summer studying Shakespearean acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and Brad
Pitt studied abroad at Thames Valley University. Both George Stephanopolous and Bill
Clinton were Rhodes Scholars at Oxford. The UK has also been a frequent destination for
future politicians including Rep. Ike Skelton, who studied at the University of Edinburgh.
