Student e-news - August 2006

August 2006

Welcome back to the British Council USA e-Update!  We hope you had a relaxing,
fun-filled summer.  While you've been vacationing, we've been working hard to connect
you with the best of British
education, arts and scientific innovation.

If you're heading back to school, now's the time to think about studying abroad - for a
semester, for a year or just for a few weeks.  For those of you who are in the working
world but still yearning to learn, remember - the best of England, Scotland, Wales and
Northern Ireland is just a click away.  From Franz Ferdinand and the best fish and chips
anywhere to one-year Master's degrees at some of the world's most respected
institutions, the UK is the place to be.  Visit our showcase of everything that's cool in the
UK and find out more.

And if you needed any extra encouragement to give it a go, September is National Passport Month            .  When was the last time you renewed yours?

No need to leave home - we've got a range of new online
features this fall bringing contemporary UK arts and culture
into your dorm room.  Check out streaming hip hop now
through our black atlantic project, a CultureFix for creative
types this September (with info about studying in the UK and
more) and an off-the-hook online "game" in November in
tandem with live artists Blast Theory.  Stay tuned for your
portal into UK creativity.

If you're heading off to the UK this fall, and are planning to
be there for six months or more, don't forget to apply for
entry clearance. You should apply at least three or four
weeks before traveling, but no more than 90 days before
your classes start.  For more information, check out our
guidance on entry clearance or visit BritainUSA, the offical
web site of the British government in the United States.

Fashion Week in London

The Fashion Week in London will take place at the Natural
History Museum from September 18-22, 2006.

And if you're considering a career in fashion you must check
out the London College of Fashion.  Find out more about Jimmy
Choo's alma mater - and how he became a shoe designer to
the stars.

Located in southeast London, Goldsmiths has an international reputation for providing a
stimulating and enriching study environment.  High academic standards and a century's
membership of the prestigious University of London combine to make us a truly unique
place.  We're large enough to have the facilities that you'll need and expect as a student.
We're small enough to be welcoming.  And with an active (and award-winning) students'
union, a lively social scene, and diverse student population, you'll find that the
atmosphere at Goldsmiths is vibrant and inclusive.

Check us out at the following events this fall:                          Goldsmiths University of London

• September 19, 2006: Boston, MA
The Idealist.org Graduate Degrees for the Public Good Fair

• September 20, 2006: Washington, DC
The Idealist.org Graduate Degrees for the Public Good Fair
