British Council has existed in Uganda for 56 years when it first opened a library in Kampala in 1952. The main objective of this library was to provide British Literature with the intent of educating the public on UK art, culture and education. From then to today, with a break during the chequered history of Uganda between 1972 and 1984 when we temporarily closed shop, it has been a journey of creating partners and providing many opportunities. We have changed over each decade and have striven to look at ways of engaging with Uganda in a more relevant and appropriate way. Today we have a wide range of partnerships across leadership development, creativity in arts and culture and promotion of educational opportunities.
