OUR CURRENT WORK

Please find below the details of each project that we are running.

Independent Commission on Turkey

Aim: This project aims to support the new report of the The Independent Commission on Turkey (ICT) which was formed in 2004 by a group of former prominent statesmen of some EU countries. The ICT was established with the support of the Open Society Foundation and the British Council in order to examine arguments and to explore the potential benefits and challenges of Turkey’s membership to the EU, thereby stimulating a more balanced, objective and informed debate in Europe about Turkish accession.
Partners: Open Society Foundation, Turkey
Contacts: Esra Canakci and Berrak Altun

Bosphorus Conference
Aim: The annual Bosphorus Conference aims to discuss issues relevant to Turkey’s EU accession in a frank and off-therecord platform with the participation of high-level politicians, academics, think tank members, media professionals, bureaucrats, businesspeople and NGO representatives both from Turkey and Europe, and to develop recommendations for progress in this process.
Partners: Delegation of the European Union to Turkey, Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV - Turkey);
Contact: Ceyhun Göcenoğlu

Our Shared Europe

Project Period: 2009 - 2014
Aim: Our Shared Europe project is the British Council’s response to one of the major cultural challenges facing our continent today - the growing mutual mistrust between Muslim communities and wider European society. “Our Shared Europe” seeks to find common ground, and build shared values, perspectives and behaviours that are based on mutual respect and trust.
