SKILLS@WORK - POLICY DIALOGUE    

Policy Dialogue - 1
In the first year of the Skills@work project, a series of workshops have been organised to find out the vocational education levels of the participating countries in SEE and to convey the experiences from the UK.

These workshops were held in Croatia, Turkey, Serbia and Cyprus and covered topics like national qualifications, professional standards, curriculum development and quality improvement. Representatives of vocational education institutions from the region participated.

Policy Dialogue - 2
Skills@Work policy dialogue 2 project brings the public and private sectors together, and include the private sector employers into the process of the development of the vocational education.

A series of meetings and workshops have been organized due to the fact that Skills@Work will determine the issues having the priority for the development of “the vocational and technical education” in Turkey., These meetings have been held within the scope of the Skill@Work project.

During the evaluation stage, it has been agreed that ‘’Development of the Curriculum to Meet any Requirements Related with the Industry ‘’ should have the priority.  

One of the ideas developed, at the end of the studies carried out with Ministry of Education, various vocational high schools and Vocational Universities, Chamber of Industry, and industrial organizations was to increase ‘’Sister School ‘’ practice and systemize, in the name of school – Industry collaboration.

In this sense, planning and realization of the project Skills@work and one of its sub-components “improving and supporting the VET System in Turkey through sister school partnership in catering sector” coincide with the British Council’s priorities and goals:

This sub-component has been executed jointly by the British Council, Ministry of Education, and YESİDEF

• In the first year of the project (2008 – 2009), YESİDEF and KTÖGM’s earlier partnership has speeded up the integration of the sector to the education system with British Council’s ‘school-company partnerships’ project, In the second year of the project (2009 – 2010), the focus was on making YESİDEF and KTÖGM institutions that collaborate in developing and implementing the strategies for skilled labour force in the sector.

  SKILLS FOR EMPLOYABILITY
  
  MEB KTÖGM and YESIDEF activities under the Skills@Work programme has set a very good example of private-public partnership in this context.
  
  It is planned to undertake this strand within Skills for Employability, the global project of British Council and deliver the project in cooperation with MEB KTÖGM and YESIDEF
• This year 11 VET high schools and 11 catering campanies worked together in order to develop their local projects just like they did last year. (small local projects in order to develop their habit of "working together"). But main concentration was on to develop and mondernise the "catering models" in schools, with involvement of the educators and company and representatives.
