Our Work in Turkey

Our aim is to connect the Turkish science community with what’s happening on the UK science scene  and build links with counterparts there. In Turkey we work with TUBITAK, science parks, science centres and universities with a view to supporting Turkish scientific endeavour.

Here are the areas our work covers:

The Researcher Exchange Programme (RXP) : We are pleased to announce the introduction of a new approach to promoting scientific co-operation and contacts between the UK and Turkey. This new programme called “The Researcher Exchange Programme (RXP)” will help develop new research links between higher education institutions and research laboratories in the UK and Turkey
Beautiful Science: It is a new British Council initiative – linking science, education and the arts – which ultimately seeks to inspire young people to consider a career in science and encourage young scientists to communicate with the wider public, in an open, comprehensive, inspired and interactive way.
CAFE SCIENTIFIQUE:Café Scientifique is a global product under the Council’s ‘Understanding Science in Society’ programme area. It aims to encourage a forum atmosphere for debating science issues by promoting public engagement with science and the impact of science on people’s lives, as a driver of social and cultural change.
ZeroCarbonCity Campaign : Through ZeroCarbonCity Campaign we aim to raise public awareness in Climate Change issues via NorthSouthEastWest exhibition and  Cafe Scientifique discussion forums.

DNA50 Campaign : In 2004 we organised the DNA50 campaign as part of the celebrations regarding the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the double helix structure of DNA. During this campaign DNA50 exhibition toured 5 cities across Turkey and a series of Café Scientifique events and molecule model making activities were held. .

We also provide opportunities for our partners in Turkish science community to participate in UK science seminars and gain knowledge about UK’s experience in their field. Aslı Zülal from TUBITAK’s “Bilim ve Teknik” Magazine attended “Common language: communicating science to everyone” seminar in Edinburgh between 3-8 April 2005. She shares her experience with you through her diary.
