DELEGATION OF THE EUROPEAN UNION TO TURKEY   

Delegation of the European Union to Turkey represents the European Commission on the diplomatic and political level. It is the channel for day-to-day relations between the Commission and Turkey, and reports to Brussels on the latest political, economic and commercial developments. It monitors and reports to Brussels political and economic developments related to Turkey's reform process related to the EU acquis and short- and medium-term priorities under the accession partnership.

The Delegation also actively supports Turkey’s accession and negotiation process by direct involvement in the preparatory and follow-up stages of the process.

It also gives support to the establishment and development of the full operational capacity of the structures required for the management of EU-funded pre-accession assistance. The Delegation in Turkey contributes to the programming of financial cooperation between the EU and Turkey. It ensures the management of deconcentrated programmes and projects and supervises their efficiency in the pre-accession process.

Delegation of the European Union to Turkey also supports activities to inform the Turkish citizens about the European Union and to increase the visibility, awareness and understanding of the EU, its values and interests.

The Delegation contributes at the technical level to the dialogue between the EC and Turkey in different sub-committees, meetings, etc. The tasks include regular dialogue with policymakers, opinion leaders and experts on both the government and NGO level in the acquis sectors, as well as with the technical services of the Commission.

THE TURKISH ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL STUDIES FOUNDATION (TESEV)   

The Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV) is an independent non-governmental think-tank, analyzing social, political and economic policy issues facing Turkey. Based in Istanbul, TESEV was founded in 1994 to serve as a bridge between academic research and policy-making process in Turkey. By opening new channels for policy-oriented dialogue and research, TESEV aims to promote the role of civil society in the democratic process and seeks to share its research findings with the widest possible audience. In order to do so, TESEV organizes regular seminars and conferences, bringing together specialists and policymakers from Turkey and abroad to discuss issues of current concern. It releases project reports, books, pamphlets, policy watch briefings and seminar proceedings aimed at general readership.

TESEV focuses on the most urgent and important policy questions facing Turkey and its neighbourhood in the new century. Program areas are grouped under three headings: “Democratization of Turkey”, “Foreign Policy and International Relations”, and “Good Governance”. Some of the most remarkable of TESEV’s work have been on the issues of Islam and democracy, combating corruption, state reform, and transparency and accountability. Among the ongoing project areas are security sector reform, minorities and citizenship rights, transparency and strengthening civil society as well as Cyprus, Middle East and North Africa, and Turkey and European Union relations.

BRITISH COUNCIL   

The British Council is the United Kingdom's main agency for creating stronger cultural relations with other countries. We have been working in Turkey continuously since 1940, have centres in Ankara and İstanbul and are also active throughout the rest of Turkey.

In Turkey we employ 70 people, the vast majority of them Turks and we are the United Kingdom’s one of the largest grant-funded British Council operation in Europe.

We believe in building sustainable relationships between people and institutions in Britain and Turkey because these benefit both countries. Our work covers a vast range of areas from English language and education to science and the arts, and from work with civil society to government reform.

Two major themes underlie most of our work – demonstrating the UK’s support for Turkey’s accession to the EU in practical ways and in empowering young people in Turkey and the UK through the relationships that we encourage and support.
