We invest time and resources in giving our teachers new skills

Our network thrives on the migration of staff around the world and the ideas and experiences they bring with them. Because so many of our teachers stay within the British Council network, we invest time and resources in training teachers for professional development. In-service training is a compulsory element of most of our teachers’ contracts.

Teachers who join the network with a certificate level qualification are encouraged to take a diploma in their first year. There is financial support available for this, and also for teachers who want to study for other qualifications, for example relevant post-graduate courses.

Our teaching centres are very well equipped with interactive facilities and IT for language learning. Some centres have interactive whiteboards. We offer training to teachers who want to develop new skills and services using IT in the classroom, and to promote self-access learning.

Other training areas include:

Academic theory and practice of ELT
Management of teaching institutions
Marketing and business skills
Teaching Young Learners.
