WHAT IS YOUR APPROACH TO TEACHING?
We believe that children learn English by using it. This means that your child will be very active in class, spending a lot of time practising new language and speaking with other students. Our teachers will listen to your child, correct mistakes, build your child’s confidence, and help your child become a confident and efficient communicator. We aim to motivate your child by showing how English can be an important tool by providing a safe and supportive environment in which to explore the world of information. We will help your child develop critical thinking skills, study skills and independence with a truly international outlook on today’s world. Underpinning this is a solid basis in listening, reading, writing and speaking, as well as grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.
HOW IS MY CHILD’S PROGRESS ASSESSED?
We monitor your child’s progress carefully throughout the course. Your child will participate in assessed tasks which are linked to the material from the course. At the end of each course you will receive a report which will provide details of your child’s progress.
In addition, we will hold a parents’ meeting twice a year (December and June) where you will have the opportunity to come in and see your child’s work and also discuss your child’s progress with the teacher.
If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact your child’s teacher to discuss your child’s progress during the course.
DO YOUR COURSES PREPARE STUDENTS FOR SCHOOL EXAMINATIONS?
Our courses do not specifically follow the syllabus of school examinations. We aim to develop your child’s communicative abilities in English which we hope will have a positive effect on your child’s grades, but the courses are not designed as exam preparation classes.
DO YOU TEACH PRONUNCIATION USING KK?
No. We teach pronunciation and reading using natural models and phonics, using similar methods used to teach reading to native speaking children.
WHAT HAPPENS IF A CHILD MISBEHAVES?
We expect our students to behave well and contribute fully to the class. However, in extreme cases, a child may be sent to discuss their behaviour with a senior member of staff. We will contact you if we are unable to resolve an issue. We will also contact you if your child is consistently late without explanation or doesn’t do their homework.
WILL MY CHILD PROGRESS TO THE NEXT LEVEL AT THE END OF EACH YEAR?
We will talk to you and your child at our parents' meetings to assess his or her readiness to move on. We estimate that a child will spend 5 terms in each level before moving on (about 105 hours of tuition). We are sure you will understand the need to ‘master the basics’ in order to gain a good grounding in the language.
