Cartoon Contest on Climate Change

If you are young, creative, have a sense of humour and are concerned about climate change, here is your chance to put all of this to good use. British Council in partnership with the Ken Sprague Fund UK announces a cartoon contest on climate change. The contest is organised as part of the British Council project Low Carbon Futures Project which focuses on mitigating the effects of climate change in an urban environment.

The contest is open to all Sri Lankan citizens from 18 to 35 years. There are several themes to choose from - drought and water shortage, deforestation and rain forest destruction, melting of the ice caps, role of industry in polluting the atmosphere, devastation of our seas and disappearance of marine life and climate change in an urban environment.

The entries will be judged by a panel of eminent cartoonists from India, Sri Lanka and the UK. There are exciting prizes to be won from a laptop, Smart-phone to an i-Pod. Additionally the award winning entries along with the ones that make it to the final shortlist will be exhibited in Sri Lanka in March 2010.

So get ready to draw the laughs because climate change is a serious business.

ELIGIBILITY

• Sri Lankan Citizens between
the age of 18 and 35 years
can apply.

GUIDELINES

• Cartoons should be made by hand.

• Entries can be submitted as a hard/
scanned copy in high resolution
(minimum 640x480 pixels).

• Cartoons should be in black and
white.

• Material to be used: White Chart
Paper (size 12 x 15 inches) and ink
and brush/Black Felt Pen/Charcoal.

• Maximum 5 entries per individual.

• Only original work should be
submitted, copying will lead to
disqualification, even if found at
a later date.
