Just choose the type of membership that suits you best, come to the British Council bringing proof of identification and borrow items right away with your new membership card which you get immediately.

GOLD ADULT / DIAMOND / PLATINUM MEMBERSHIPIf you are 16 years or older you are eligible for this membership.
You can become a member by producing an identification or proof of employment or by a deposit.
You will need to fill an application form which is available at the library help desk.
Membership by production of identification
We will grant membership over the counter on the production of a national identity card, driver's licence, valid passport, letter of introduction from employer or work identity card.
Non-Sri Lankan citizens working in Sri Lanka should produce a letter of introduction from employer or a work identity card.
Membership by deposit
If you are unable to produce the above listed identification documents you can obtain membership by payment of a refundable deposit of Rs 3,000 in addition to the annual membership fee.

Your application should be signed by your parent or guardian, who thereby takes responsibility for all materials borrowed by you.

If you are registered as a student at our Teaching Centre or for an examination with us you are eligible for this membership.

You may obtain membership over the counter by producing your student card, an official receipt or other document of proof from the British Council Teaching Centre.

Any government or non-governmental organisation you can apply for this membership. This membership category provides institutions with ready access to all our library and information services - including a vast range of electronic resources.

The application should be made by the Head of the Department / Institution and the official stamp of the institution should support the application.
