We would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the following training opportunity regarding the IELTS exam.
Owing to the huge interest of exam candidates and teachers the Teaching Centre at the British Council Bratislava, Slovakia, has prepared a special IELTS preparation programme. This specially designed 6-hour workshop will cover all the key skills of the exam – Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening with a special emphasis on the aspects of Speaking and Writing. The main purpose of the training is to guide candidates and teachers through the skills necessary to pass the exam at the appropriate level. The workshop is mainly aimed at candidates taking the Academic Module and teachers preparing their students for IELTS exam (Academic Module).
The IELTS workshop is available on Friday 03 February 2012 (9.30 – 16.30) and its price is 90 EUR./places are limited/
Here’s what a customer who attended the workshop in July recently wrote to us: “I am writing to let you know that I am a proud student of the University of Birmingham now and I would like to thank you for your workshop at the British Council. I am so happy that I made it on the first attempt. I achieved 7.5 overall :) What is more, 8.5 from listening and 8 from reading.”
Please confirm your interest by sending your personal details (name, address, date of birth and contact telephone number) to info@britishcouncil.sk by 31 January 2012. We will confirm your registration by sending you your attendance number together with our payment details. Please notice that workshop can be cancelled in case of insufficient number of attendees.
We have launched extra examination preparation benefits for registered IELTS candidates. The self-study preparation course ‘Road to IELTS’, written by the British Council, is now available online in the Slovak Republic as a free added-value service for their IELTS candidates. The course takes the test candidate through all four parts of the test; reading, listening, speaking and writing. The material gives explanations of question types, provides tips on how to handle the tasks and provides online scoring of exercises so that candidates can assess their level and progress. In the speaking section, sample videos take the learner through each stage of the speaking test.
‘Road to IELTS Online’ is available now and is open to any person who has registered for an IELTS test with the British Council in the Slovak Republic.

WHAT IS IELTS?
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) provides an assessment of English language proficiency. It is widely recognised for further and higher education and is preferred by most universities and other educational institutions in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States of America.
IELTS assesses whether the candidate is ready to study in English or work in an English speaking environment.
Information for Candidates
IELTS Exam Course
This 10 week course focuses on the 4 sections of the IELTS exam and gives the students broad coverage and practice in the skills needed to better cope with the demands of the test. The course caters for both General and Academic modules.
IELTS One day Workshop
This 6 hour workshop focuses on the four parts of the exam and provides the students with strategies and ideas to help them better prepare for the demands of the Academic and General Training papers. Particular emphasis is given to the writing and speaking sections as they are often the most problematic for students.
There are two IELTS modules which candidates can choose from: the Academic or the General Training Module.
The Academic Reading and Writing module is recommended for candidates who want to pursue under- or postgraduate studies.
The General Training Reading and Writing module is not intended to test the full range of language skills required for academic purposes. The emphasis is on basic skills that are used in a broad social and educational context. It is most suitable for candidates who are going to English speaking countries (e.g. to complete their secondary education, undertake work or for immigration purposes).
It is not necessary to attend an IELTS preparation course though it is, of course, a good idea to prepare thoroughly for the test. You can prepare yourself by using self-study materials.
We offer the IELTS Specimen Materials Packs with CD. They have been produced according to Cambridge ESOL's Question Paper Production cycle and are the only preparation resources that are endorsed by all three IELTS partners. This includes a full practice test with answer key so you can gain experience in the format of the test and get an idea of your level. You can purchase this material from us personally, or we can ship it to you. For 22 Euro we can ship you the Specimen pack within one week. Email us or call us at 02/54431074.
