How we work

The British Council in Scotland identifies and acts upon opportunities for Scottish expertise in the arts and creative industries to contribute to the British Council’s cultural relations mission.

We are not a funding organisation in the traditional sense. Instead, we work closely with the Creative Scotland and other partner organisations such as Edinburgh Festival Fringe and National Museums Scotland.

We identify opportunities for collaboration on projects such as Kolkata Connections which meet our different objectives and to ensure that we capitalise on our different strengths. Although we are approached with many exciting ideas for projects, we are only able to collaborate on a limited number of partnerships each year.

Please note that we plan well in advance to maximize our impact. We work across art forms and across sectors, adding creativity to other areas of the British Council’s work. We aim to work on projects where we can add value through our involvement.

For more information on our work in the arts please email arts@britishcouncil.org.
