There has been a rise in the number of students going back into education, studying towards second degrees or further qualifications and at any stage in life.  Lifelong learners are a fact of life nowadays, since technological progress takes place at an ever-increasing speed, making it necessary for more and more people to keep studying in order to keep up to date in their fields.
