Universities in nine Polish cities run partner centres in association with us. Lending and information services are offered in all of these centres and they are open to the general public. The main areas covered in the stock and services include English for teachers and learners, study in the UK, British literature, life and culture.

Please be informed that the British Council Library in Warsaw is now run in co-operation with Biblioteka Publiczna w Dzielnicy Praga Południe m.st. Warszawy at Meissnera 5. All our library resources were transferred to our partner in 2008. As a result, our members have access to wider range of services and resources, including resources in other languages, such as French, German, Russian, Spanish and Italian.

Important notice

Dear Customers

We would like to inform you that from 1 January 2009 the British Council no longer offers access to e-resources provided via Athens interface. We have made this very difficult decision for several key reasons:

• a very large increase in the cost of subscriptions which the British Council has until now paid
• the relatively low usage of these databases offered by the British Council
• the growing number of resources available on the Internet free of charge

We are very sorry for this change.

We would like to assure you that we continue to be committed to offering our customers a quality service and our Partner Centres’ Staff will provide information on free websites where you can access a lot of the information previously available through Athens.
