British Chevening Scholarships in Nepal

Have you recently enrolled, or are about to enrol, on a 12 month postgraduate course in the UK? Do you want help with funding your studies? Are you under 35 and already experienced in your chosen career? Would you like to develop your career and become part of an influential global alumni? Then a British Chevening Scholarship could be right for you.

What is a Chevening Scholarship?
The
Chevening Scholarship Programme is a prestigious awards scheme that funds international postgraduate students who want to study in the UK. Funded by the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and administered by the British Council, the scheme operates in over 150 countries and annually provides funding for over 2,300 students for postgraduate studies or research at UK institutions of higher education.

THE CHEVENING PROGRAMME IN NEPAL
Each year we provide around 2 scholarships to highly qualified and dynamic individuals. Awards are either for one-year Masters courses or for shorter courses with the minimum length of an award being for 3 months.

The scholarships will fund upto a full year of postgraduate study in the UK. This will include:

academic fees   
living expenses and allowances   
travel costs to and from the UK   
thesis expenses   

The scholarship allowances that a scholar receives are enough to cover the scholar's basic needs and do not allow for the support of scholar's family. Scholars are not allowed to take up paid employment during the period of the scholarship award.

WHAT ARE THE SUBJECTS?
The priority areas for scholarships are reviewed and set on a year by year basis.  For the 2009/10 programme the priority subject areas set are as follows:

climate/environment studies    
defence administration    
human rights   
international law   
journalism and media studies   
peace studies   

Can I apply?
You can apply for a Chevening scholarship if you:

are between 25 and 35 years of age   
have a high quality first degree (Bachelors) and have a top class career prospects   
have a good command of written and spoken English (selected candidates will need to sit for an IELTS test and obtain results sufficient for entry to their selected UK institution).   

Preference will be given to candidates

who are highly motivated   
who have the ability to to influence Nepal's development and public life   
who have already secured an offer of admission from a UK university    
who will be able to contribute to the strengthening of bilateral relations between Nepal and Britain on their return from Britain   

HOW TO APPLY?
Last date for applying for the programme for 2009/2010 was 10 November 2008.

The programme for 2010/2011 will be advertised in the leading daily newspaper as well as on this website around September 2009.

This is a highly competitive scheme. Only highly qualified and dynamic individuals will be considered.
