WHO IS THE BRITISH COUNCIL?

An organisation creating opportunities for people worldwide

The British Council is the UK's leading international organisation for educational and cultural relations.

BRITISH COUNCIL MOROCCO

British Council opened in Morocco in 1960 as the the UK’s international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations.

We create learning opportunities for people in Morocco through the provision of quality English language learning and examinations services. We facilitate access to reliable high quality information about British education resources, training and scholarship opportunities in the UK.

We bring to Morocco varied resources and programmes of film, music, sport and literature that demonstrate the creativity, quality and modernity of British Culture.

We contribute to intercultural understanding between young people in Morocco and the UK by building networks through educational and artistic links.

Our partnership programme brings together Moroccan and British government bodies, civil society, educational and professional institutions, and individuals, to showcase British diversity and innovation and to share experience and best practice in the areas of Education, English Language Teaching, and Society.

We bring together Moroccan and British people for their mutual benefit and greater understanding.

BRITISH COUNCIL – WORLDWIDE

In the UK
British Council is registered as a charity (non-profit-making organisation) and as non-political organisation which operates at arm’s length from government.

We receive an annual grant from the British Government and generate revenue selling services such as English language courses and examinations. Our income in 2004/05 was £475.5 million, of which our grant-in-aid from the British government was £172 million.

We are represented in 109 countries with headquarters in London and Manchester.

WORKING WITH US

Association with British Council provides opportunities for international networking, links with Moroccan and British individuals and organisations, as well as opportunities for market positioning, and enhancing corporate images and reputation.  We work with both local and international partners.

BRITISH EMBASSY, BRITISH CONSULATE, BRITISH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

British Council is an independent organisation with its own Royal Charter. We work closely with the British Embassy, the British Consulate and the British Chamber of Commerce to strengthen relations and encourage mutual respect of British and Moroccan cultures and values.

The British Embassy in Rabat is the official representative of the British Government in Morocco, responsible for all aspects of bilateral and economic relations between the British and Moroccan Governments. The Consulate-General , together with the Economic and commercial sections of the Embassy, provide a wide range of services to British and Moroccan business.  Visas for entry into the UK are issued by the Consulate-General in Rabat.

The British Chamber of Commerce in Casablanca promotes British exports to, and investment in, Morocco and provides advice and help to British companies interested in doing business in Morocco.
