Young learners English tests (YLE)

Prepare your child for a better future    

How old should the children be?

They should be at least seven years old.    
Children can take starters at twelve or flyers at seven, depending on how much English they know.   
Children aged thirteen, who are in the same class as twelve years old at school, may also take these tests.   
Cambridge starters test: Children who have studied English for 100 hours.   
Cambridge Movers test: Children who have studied English for 175 hours.   
Cambridge Flyers test: Children who have studied English for 250 hours.   

Which skills do these tests cover?

Listening: between 40 and 60 minutes (depends on the level of the test)   
Reading and Writing: between 40 and 60 minutes   
Speaking: from 5 to 10 minutes   

What do your children receive?

An award showing a grade between one and five for each different skill area assessed.

Why take Cambridge Young learners English tests (YLE)?

Dates and locations:

We can arrange tests to take place anytime of the year to meet your needs, but you need to register for the tests about eight weeks in advance.

Your children may be tested either in their schools or at one of our British Council centres.

To register download the application form (Word format 39 KB) And send it to the British Council before the deadline with a cheque.

Once you are registered with Cambridge ESOL (i.e. after the registration deadline) no refund or rescheduling is possible. However, A candidate who withdraws on medical grounds or misses the exam because of illness will receive a refund less 400 MAD administration fees. A statement/medical report MUST be handed in with the refund request.
