About Portico Quartet

Electronica meets 21st century-jazz in Portico Quartet’s melodic, rhythmic music that mixes the inspiration of Philip Glass and Steve Reich with a very contemporary kind of jazz improv. It’s the blend of ethereal saxophone, splattering electronics, otherworldly Hang, clattering drums and earthy double-bass that gives their music it’s unique sound. Their hook-laden, darkly atmospheric post-jazz has pushed them to the forefront of the contemporary music scene and their inimitable sound that has been compared to Radiohead, E.S.T and The Cinematic Orchestra amongst others.

About the Festival

Organized since 1996 by the Delegation of the European Union in Morocco, the embassies and cultural institutes of the Member States of the European Union, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and the Wilaya of Rabat Salé, the Jazz Chellah  festival demonstrated that music is one of the most successful illustrations of intercultural dialogue between Europe and Morocco. Each year, the Moroccan and European artists are invited to the event, providing the public with new musical discoveries.
