General English courses for 2011    

In these courses, you will improve your speaking, reading, listening and writing skills, using textbooks and other material carefully chosen by our teaching staff. We use DVDs and audio Cds, and we also place a great deal of emphasis on using the most up to date computer resources. You can have full access to our CD ROMs collection. We produce these resources to give you the opportunity to practise outside, as well as inside, the classroom. Our communicative approach ensures that all students, even beginners, take an active part in all lessons.

The courses build on each other, so you can start at the level suited to your ability and work your way up.

Elementary: Levels 1, 2 and 3   
Pre-Intermediate: Levels 1, 2 and 3   
Intermediate: Levels 1, 2 and 3   
Upper-intermediate: Levels 1, 2 and 3   
Advanced: Levels 1, 2 and 3   

You will sit for a placement test to determine which level is best for you.

Elementary

You will

practise English in everyday situations (asking for & giving personal details, exchanging information, social English)   
understand basic English grammar (talking about the past, the present & the future)   
write simple messages, short descriptions & texts   
read simple messages, notices & texts   
understand simple information (announcements, instructions, and directions)   
know your strengths & weaknesses as a learner.   

Pre-Intermediate

You will

practise & improve your English for various situations   
get a broad understanding of English grammar   
increase your vocabulary   
write longer notes, letters, descriptions, and texts   
read & understand real English texts   
increase your fluency & your ability to explain your ideas   
know your strengths & weaknesses as a learner   

Intermediate

You will

develop the English knowledge you already have to communicate more accurately & appropriately   
understand English tenses better, speak using present, past & future tenses   
understand how English can be used formally & informally   
increase your vocabulary & understand word formation better   
write longer texts in different styles   
improve your listening abilities through speaking & listening to audio & video material   
be able to communicate with more confidence & effectiveness in every day situations   
know your strengths & weaknesses as a learner   

Upper-Intermediate

You will

improve your knowledge of English grammar & the tense system   
increase your vocabulary & improve your understanding of word formation   
read & understand longer texts with a greater understanding of style & appropriacy   
read various authentic texts with greater confidence & skill   
improve your listening for overall understanding & for specific points   
improve your communication skills   
be aware of how different styles of English may be used in different situations   

Advanced

You will

extend your accuracy & fluency in using advanced grammar & tenses   
increase vocabulary at an advanced level (synonyms, collocations etc.)   
work with various listening & reading activities   
be confident in speaking in a variety of styles & situations   
read & interpret advanced texts   
be able to write texts in a range of styles & with suitable appropriacy   
improve your communication skill
