Skills Up! British Council’s 'Skills for Employability' radio program

Stories About Our Work: Enterprise Challenges

'Broadly speaking, an entrepreneur is someone who takes an idea and makes it happen' Tom Bewick, CEO of Enterprise UK.

Skills Up! is a four-part radio show produces as part of Skills for Employability, British Council’s project in technical and vocational education.

The programme captures the views of young people looking to engage with employment, the importance of developing the right skills for the workplace and how SfE has supported them by providing opportunities to widen their experience through international collaboration.

'There are fantastic channels to be utilised through organisations like Enterprise UK and the British Council to promote what business can do to transform individuals, families and communities'…Tim Campbell, entrepreneur and 'The Apprentice' winner.

'The three P’s; always remain Positive about what you want to do, always remain Passionate about what you want to achieve and always illustrate Perseverance because if you don’t show hard work, you won’t go far in life.' – Sabirul Islam, young entrepreneur who at the age of 14 he set up a webpage design company with six friends and made £1,000 in the first two weeks of business. At 16 he was head-hunted by a well known financial management company and flown out to New York to experience the trading floor first hand.

Soon after, he was working as a part time trader on the London Stock Exchange. Now, aged 20, he travels the world giving motivational speeches, has launched an entrepreneurial board game used in colleges across the UK and written a book.

Radio is an excellent way of reaching large audiences and SfE has already reached over 19 million listeners in Central and South Asia.
