Materials and Course Design

Serving the needs of teachers and students

One main area of the Peacekeeping English Project's work was developing specialist language learning materials relevant to uniformed services' personnel. We ran workshops and projects where teachers developed their skills in syllabus and course design and materials development.  These materials were for use in the classroom or for individual study in a Self-Access Centre.

We also worked with other producers of courses and materials in these sectors to bring in and help transfer expertise developed in the project.  Some areas of development included:

*    A Military English skills book (Breakthrough)

*    Listening materials for Self-Access Centres

*    Use of visual authentic training materials

*    Human rights materials

Our LearnEnglish Peacekeepers website also provided online materials and worksheets which teachers could download and adapt to their context.  These materials covered a wide range of military contexts as well as areas of language that were specifically relevant to the work of police and border guards.
