Liverpool; Much more than the Beatles
Liverpool is traditionally known as a very musical city - it was the first UK city to get into rock and roll, as sailors returning from the USA used to dock in Liverpool, having the latest records with them.
Most people have probably heard of Liverpool because of The Beatles, the most famous band to come out of the city. The Beatles still retain a warm place in Liverpool's heart and play a part in the city's tourist industry - you can visit Penny Lane and check out the Cavern Club on organised trips to the City. John Lennon's childhood house was even opened as a tourist attraction last year. However, there is more to Liverpool than the Beatles; the city is the UK’s nomination for European Capital of Culture 2008.
New scene
Liverpool isn't just looking back to the Beatles to get its musical inspiration either. We went to three gigs by new Liverpool bands, who are all tipped for big things, to bring you images of the excitement generated at these concerts. These are Zutons , The Bandits and the Stands. We managed to get a few words with Dave, singer with the Zutons as well.

The Zutons
Dave lead singer with the Zutons, on the right of the picture top right, gave his thoughts on everything from The Beatles to manufactured pop.
When asked about the Beatles Dave acknowledged their talent “The Beatles were amazing” he said, "and their record is one that’s hard to beat."
Merseybeat
The Zutons have been together for 2 years. They are part of the Merseybeat scene but work hard to bring something new to it. “Everybody brings different things into the scene.” Dave said. Though bands that might initially sound similar after further thought you find that they have something different to offer. This is often based on where they come from, and what they've experienced. These experiences are what makes them different from the other bands.
"Manufactured pop"
Like many muscians, Dave isn't a fan of "Manufactured pop", with its instant pop stars. The bands and singers are the result of TV shows like "Pop Idol", which are very popular in the UK today. However, Dave says that these sort of TV shows kill all the mystery associated with popstars and great music.
The UKinfocus team wish The Zutons, The Bandits and The Stands all the best for the future and thank Dave for his time.
