International Networking for Young Scientists (INYS)

International Networking for Young Scientists involves workshops with a number of researchers from the UK and an equal number of local researchers; (ideally eight or more from each country).

Activity 1: Pre-reading task

  • Are you currently doing post-doctoral scientific research at a university outside the United Kingdom?
  • Would you like the chance to travel to the UK and work with British scientists in your field?
  • Are you looking for help to pay for the costs of transport, accommodation and facilities?

The International Networking for Young Scientists scheme could be what you are looking for…

Activity 2: Reading

Read the information on the following web pages:

What is INYS?
How will the scheme work?
When will it happen?

Then return here and try and complete a summary of the texts.

Activity 3: Follow-up task

Which of these quotes do you agree with?

"A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it." (Max Planck)

“Four stages of acceptance of a scientific theory: i) this is worthless nonsense; ii) this is an interesting, but perverse, point of view; iii) this is true, but quite unimportant; iv) I always said so.” (J.B.S. Haldane)

“Enough research will tend to support your theory” (Murphy’s Law)
