Why should I choose Italy?

What are the terms and conditions in Italy?
There are around 50 posts in schools across the country. The majority of these posts are at secondary level although there are a small number of posts available in primary schools.
Undergraduates who are studying Italian at a UK university, for whom it is compulsory to spend a year abroad, will have priority. However a few applications from graduates may also be successful, as long as eligibility and quality criteria are met. You should have AS-level, Higher Grade or equivalent in Italian to apply.
Dates of appointment: 1 October – 31 May
Hours: 12 per week
Pay: €850 per month net
Other benefits: some schools offer free meals and accommodation
Age and passport requirements: the Italian Ministry of Education is normally able to consider only candidates under the age of 30, who hold a UK or Irish passport.
Where can I go in Italy?
The posts are not all in the same locations every year, so you should be as flexible as possible. It is helpful if you can indicate whether you prefer a post in northern or southern Italy. Emilia Romagna, Lazio, Lombardia and Toscana are the most popular first-choice regions, so competition for these locations is particularly tough. We recommend you research possible destinations in Italy thoroughly before applying.

Will I be interviewed?
Some candidates may be assessed by telephone interview where areas of their application need to be followed up. These telephone interviews are likely to take place in February and March.
Will there be an induction course?
You will be invited to an induction course in Italy at the end of September/beginning of October. You will receive more information on the induction course if you are successfully allocated to a post.
When will I hear?
You will receive an email from us confirming receipt of your application by early January.
April - you will find out whether your application has been put forward for a post (whether or not you were interviewed)
May/June - you will find if you are successful or not and the location of your post/school from the British Council
