Further Information for Applicants

The application for 2012/13 Chevening Scholarships was closed on 17 January 2012.

Successful candidates at the first stage will be contacted individually around 20 Feb 2012, so please prepare for the following papers, after reading all detailed explanation about them.

Candidates must apply for admission via normal route to each university where you are planning to study, after checking each university’s application period, because all UK universities are having their own application periods.

The application should be completed no later than 4 March 2012. and should be reported to Chevening@britishcouncil.or.kr with the proper evidence of application to the UK university. Your unconditional offer letter needs to be sent to Chevening@britishcouncil.or.kr by 31 March 2012.

If you received a paper copy of the admission letter, please send a scanned version of the letter by e-mail to the above email address as well.  

HOW DO I APPLY FOR A CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIP?

(All dates are changeable; therefore you need to keep checking afterwards.)

  1. Application period through the E-Chevening website & submission of required paper documents: 1400 on 2 November 2011 – 1700 on 17 January 2012. (Korean time)

    (1) Please refer to the parts below for the required paper documentations in “What Documentation do I need to submit?" in this site and submit them by 1700 on 4 March 2012 to the British Embassy Seoul.
    (2) The application website (e-Chevening site) is only available during aforementioned application period.
    (3) Please keep your reference no. you receive after submitting your application. The no. will be used when you have enquiries afterwards about your application.
    (4) You cannot have or check your ID and password from both BC or BE, so please keep them in safe and use them until you submit your application. (NB Once you lost them, there is no way to get them back or check them. Thus you need to create another ID and password and write down your  application all over again.)

  2. Your score in IELTS should be 6.5 or above, and the score needs to be written in the application site with the certificate numbers. You should hand in the transcript of IELTS before the application deadline as well, with other necessary documents.

  3. Successful candidates at the first stage will be contacted individually around early Feb 2012. - The results of the first stage will be informed to you by email separately.

  4. Interview : 29 Feb 2012 – 30 March 2012
    - The interview schedule will be informed through phone, so you must update your contact details if there is any change after you complete your application.

  5. Final email to the successful applicants: around middle of May 2012

WHAT DOCUMENTATION DO I NEED TO SUBMIT?

NB1. While you are filling in the e-Chevening application site, you need to submit following documentations all together. Please submit them all in once with the order of named papers and you cannot submit after the application period is finished.

NB2. About Document 5> You cannot submit your IELTS transcript as you need to request the transcript to the organisation where you took the exam. Therefore you should write down the TEST Report Form Number in the e-Chevening website, and request the same transcript to the organisation.

NB3. About Document 6> If you do not have it by 4 March 2012, please send any proof which you already applied for a UK university before 4 March 2012, such as received email from school or screen capture that you can see from the school’s website.  At least you need to submit your unconditional offer by 31 March 2012.

* All documentations, which ought to be in English, need to be submitted altogether by 1700 on 27 Feb 2012  in order as follows;

  1. Academic certificates for all your degrees above Bachelor

  2. Academic transcripts for your all degrees above Bachelor

  3. Certificate of employment for your present job. (If you are between jobs, the certificate of employment of your latest job is acceptable.) – If you do not have any working experience, you do not need to submit this.

  4. Two sealed reference letters from two referees (Email reference letters are not acceptable.)

  5. One copy of recent IELTS Test (Academic module only) Report Form & one original copy of the test report form. The score should be 6.5 or above. TEPS, TOEIC or other English tests are not accepted. You need to submit the original transcript of IELTS, but it needs to be reissued by the organisation where you took the test. You should not submit the copy that you received as an original copy to keep. Please write down Centre Number in “Note” section in the e-Chevening, which you can see from the left part of your transcript. When you request your transcript from the organisation, you need to ask them to send it to the British Embassy Korea for your application.

  6. Unconditional Offer Letter, Admission Letter and Acceptance Letter from your UK university. If you are currently applying for a university place, you need to complete your application by 4 March 2012 and submit this documentation by 31 March 2012. If you have not received this letter before the deadline of application, please submit any evidence which you already applied for schools through the print-screen of the finalised page of application, or email from your school etc.
