British Council takes the potential threat from the H1N1 virus very seriously, and is committed to containing the spread of H1N1.

Our policy on illness is primarily designed to protect our customers and employees from infection. Therefore our employees are actively encouraged to take sick leave if they become unwell, and this policy is strictly adhered to.  We have therefore contacted those members of staff who left the country for their vacation in August to ask them to remain particularly vigilant during the period following their return for any indicators / symptoms of ‘flu’. We will also be conducting testing for symptoms of the virus.   If they have any concerns at all in this area, they will remain at home and not come to work.  If a teacher is unable to teach for any such reason then we will organise for their classes to be covered by a substitute teacher to ensure that the children do not fall behind in the course.  The substitute teacher will communicate with the normal class teacher by phone / email to make sure that lessons are well-planned and consistent and that there is no resulting loss of quality.

As ever, we ask you also to pay attention to your and your children's health, and not come to classes if you are unwell in any way, particularly if you have travelled abroad recently.  In the case that you or your child is confirmed to have the virus, please contact us immediately so that we can take appropriate measures to protect others.

We are constantly monitoring official sources of advice about the situation with H1N1, such as the Korean Ministry of Health( www.mw.go.kr) website and the WHO( www.who.int) website, and will be taking any necessary action as appropriate.
