I want to study in the UK. Where do I start looking?
A good starting point will be to visit
Education UK website developed by the British Council. It gives general information on a range of UK educational opportunities, as well as access to an extensive database of course and institutions. Additional electronic resources are listed here. You can also visit our education

What are the course fees in the UK?
Fees depend on the type of course being considered. Examples: English language – between 50 and 900 pounds per week. Independent schools – minimum 8000 pounds per year. Bachelor and Master’s degrees – between 7000 and 20000 per year depending on a subject.
How do I apply to study in the UK?
Application procedure will depend on a type of course you are considering. Institutions’ websites and catalogues will have detailed information. Applications for an English language course, to an independent school, for International Foundation Year, and postgraduate training should be submitted directly to an institution. If you are applying for a Bachelor’s and foundation degrees you should use UCAS www.ucas.com .
Except for English language courses, where you just need to fill in a registration form, for all other types of study you should normally complete an application form, and submit education documents, essay, recommendations, and proof of English language proficiency (e.g. IELTS certificate).
Does British Council help apply to study in the UK?
No, unfortunately, British Council does not offer placement services, but you can always phone or e-mail us if you have questions about applying. You can refer for help to local agents which are part of the Kazakhstan Association of Educational Agents
www.kaea.kz .
Does British Council offer any scholarships?
Yes, British Council administers two programmes –
Chevening Scholarship (Master’s degree; citizens of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan are eligible) on behalf of UK Foreign Commonwealth Office and John Smith Fellowship (5-week intensive programme for young leaders from Kyrgyzstan) on behalf of John Smith Memorial Trust. Can I receive advice on UK education locally?
Unfortunately, we no longer offer individual face-to-face counseling in our Almaty office. You can attend our

What visa do I need to study in the UK?
Visa type will depend on your age – Child Student Visa (4-17 years) and General Student Visa (above 17 years), and the length of your course Student Visitor (up to 6 months) and General Student Visa (over 6 months). More details on

Where can I apply for a student visa in Kazakhstan?
UK visas in Kazakhstan are issued by the British Consulate in Almaty. To apply for a visa you need to submit your application, supporting documents and biometrics to the
British Visa Centre in Almaty.
