We are looking for friendly hosts in Aberdeen to host international volunteers from Tanzania and the UK as part of our Global Xchange programme.
What is Global Xchange?
The Global Xchange programme is an exciting six-month exchange programme which gives young people from different countries a unique opportunity to work together, to develop and share valuable skills and to make a practical contribution where it is needed in local communities.
This is the first exchange to be held in Aberdeen so we are looking for local people who are able to host up to two volunteers for up to 12 weeks starting in October 2009. Families, singles, flat-shares, couples all welcome to apply.
Why host homes?
The experience that volunteers gain from staying with local hosts rather than as a whole group in a hostel gives them a far better insight into life in their host community. By taking part in a host's daily life, they gain an invaluable and unique perspective of the culture in a way that they might not otherwise. Similarly, the host home also benefits and learns from the experience of having two guests from different backgrounds staying with them.

Volunteers are expected to be one of the ‘family’ and do not need to be entertained. They will fit in with your schedule and are willing to clean and cook for themselves if necessary. We offer an allowance for host homes which is £95 per week. This is paid in instalments at a time convenient to the host household.
It's not always easy to take two strangers into your home for nearly three months. It's a big decision to make. However, we firmly believe that there are excellent benefits to be gained from the experience. We ask our volunteers to remember that they are living in somebody else's house.
We expect them to abide by whatever rules you have and respect whatever decisions you make. This ensures a good relationship between host and guest and ultimately a more positive experience for everyone.
