Distance Learning

Studying for a UK degree without uprooting your life

Many students choose distance learning as an alternative to conventional study. It is a convenient and cost effective method of study that allows students to continue with their careers while at the same time study for an international qualification. If you study with a reputable university, the qualification you gain should be of an identical high standard as that awarded to a campus-based student.

Distance learning is generally more affordable than conventional study because savings in physical infrastructure (e.g. classrooms, recreation facilities) are often passed on to students. Additionally, distance learning allows you to make considerable savings in travelling and living costs. Also, many universities help you to spread the cost by enabling you to pay your fees on an incremental basis.

One major advantage of distance learning is that you are not usually required to attend any classes. This means you are free to choose where, when and how you study. You are responsible for organising your study schedule. As a result, you can fit your studies around whatever else is happening in your life; whether that means work, family or social commitments.

DISTANCE LEARNING UNIVERSITIES

There are several distance learning providers in the UK. The Distance Learning web site, supported by The Open University, contains details of International Distance opportunities and gives you access to their Global Database of Distance and Open Learning courses.

BE AWARE OF BOGUS DEGREES

The Department for Education and Skills provides information on those institutions offering bona fide UK degrees. It also gives warnings about 'bogus' degrees advertised by unofficial organisations.
