Her previous career in the UK was concentrated in the world of education and training within schools, colleges and the university sector. She acquired a reputation nationally as a strong advocate of equal opportunity and diversity. She served ten years as Vice Chair of both the Basic Skills Agency and the Consumers’ Association.
Frederico Campos Guanais de Aguiar
Brazil
Head of the International Cooperation Office at the National School of Public Administration in Brasília-Brazil, which builds capacity for public policy management within the government. He was Special Adviser and Chief of Staff to the Minister of Social Development and Fight against Hunger, the unit in charge of poverty reduction policies, including the conditional cash transfer Bolsa Familia program.

Professor, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, Executive Vice Chair, National Innovation Foundation and Founder of Honey Bee Network. At the forefront of social innovation in India, he works in the area of expanding global, national and local space for grassroots inventors and innovators. Received the Padma Shri in 2004 for achievements in management education.

A social anthropologist who specialises on the structure of society and social change in India and questions of race and caste. Was professor of Sociology, Centre for the Study of Social Systems, Jawaharlal Nehru University. Was awarded the Malcolm Adiseshiah Award for Distinguished Contributions to Development Studies in 2004.
Mike Hardy

Programme Leader, Intercultural Dialogue, British Council, UK. The Council’s work in intercultural dialogue represents over 45 per cent of its overall work. In previous work, Mike has directed British Council’s work in international development, education and training. He was awarded the OBE in 2000. Prior to British Council, Mike was an academic economist.
Anne Harrop

Director of Policy & Research, Joseph Rowntree Foundation. Anne Harrop joined the Foundation in 2002 from the Cabinet Office, where she was responsible for supporting government departments to develop evidence-based policy making. Anne worked as deputy head of the Social Research Branch at the Department for Work and Pensions before joining the Cabinet Office.

She has been in school education since 1969 and is Principal and Secretary of Modern High School for Girls, Kolkata. Her special interest areas are evaluation in teaching and learning; open learning and continuing education; globalisation and cultural identity; ethics and education and media literacy.

Gerard Lemos

Chair, British Council. Leads the research team at Lemos&Crane. He is the author of numerous books and reports about social policy and is currently writing a book about social welfare in China. He has written a series of books and reports about supporting vulnerable people. He received a CMG in 2001 for services to the British Council.

Associate Professor, Public Systems Group, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Adviser to key academic and government organisations and NGOs on issues of hygiene and public health. He has worked as consultant to many agencies including Columbia University, WHO, UNICEF, UNDP/World Bank and the Aga Khan Foundation.
