How to prepare for the TKT

How can you prepare yourself effectively for the Teaching Knowledge Test ( TKT)?

Follow these steps for success in the test!

Use free downloadable resources from Cambridge

Cambridge ESOL has information about all three TKT modules. You can also download The TKT Handbook and The TKT Glossary. And it’s all free!

Another very good, free resource from Cambridge is the Cambridge Teaching Resources website. It has FAQs, tips, activities and sample tasks for each TKT module.

Join a British Council training course

The British Council offers one day Candidate Support Programmes for each module of TKT. Each course is seven hours long and aims to prepare candidates for the test by providing exam practice and opportunities to reflect on areas covered by each module. Participants also receive a copy of The TKT Course and the Cambridge TKT Handbook.

Use online teacher development resources

The British Council provides a wide range of resources for teachers gathered from our global base of experience and expertise in the field of English language teaching. Find resources now.

Cambridge University Press offers free downloadable activities written by renowned ELT authors (Penny Ur, Scott Thornbury and others) as well as links to other TKT resources.

Participate in an online forum

The English Language Teachers' Contact Scheme (ELTeCS) is a free, online forum for ELT professionals in India to share ideas and discuss the latest ELT issues.

Receive a free monthly e-newsletter

Keep up to date with British Council India news and events by subscribing to Talking English. Read the latest issue.

Join a British Council library near you
