Europe is changing - and the British Council is changing with it. We tackle new global challenges with a new European strategy that aims to re-allocate resources to meet new objectives in Europe and enables us to support activities to achieve British Council global goals.

Library stock at its new place
The collection of the British Council Information Service is now relocated in the Metropolitan Szabó Ervin Library, where it is more widely available. Members of the library can borrow English language learning and ELT materials, videos, DVDs in the Media Library (Médiatár) and contemporary British literature in the area called Böngészde next to our GatewayUK information point. Items for professionals will be available in the professional book section.
Education Information
Education information is provided by educational agents and the Education Information Service run by the Municipal Szabó Ervin Library.
GatewayUK network
We continue to run our GatewayUK information services network in 19 county and three Budapest branch libraries. Members of our GatewayUK services will continue to be eligible to use our e-Services.
The other important change affected our English Teaching Centre. From Autumn 2007 there are no English language courses as we closed the teaching operation in Budapest. In the future we plan to assist learners and teachers of English with our portfolio of online resources.
We are happy to announce that our Examinations Service remains unaffected by the changes, so we will continue to offer two IELTS tests per month and three Cambridge ESOL exam sessions per year.
The most significant challenge for us now is to work through multilateral networks and partnerships instead of working bilaterally through our regional projects. The British Council is present in 109 countries and during its operation it has built an international network of cultural and education professionals that is unique in the world. In the future we would like to develop these partnerships and networks further for the benefit to achieve global goals. We are positive that European professionals can excel at this. Our new aim is therefore to connect young professionals to build networks to achieve goals together.
We hope that you will understand the changes and you will keep in touch with us after these changes take place.
