PET is a language qualification at CEF level B1. It assesses candidates' language skills at lower-intermediate level.
There are two versions of PET available: PET and PET for Schools. The two versions are identical in the test format, level of question papers. The test certificates for both are the same. The only difference is that the content and treatment of topics in PET for Schools have been particularly targeted at the interests of school children.
Registration ProceduresThe registration form can be downloaded from this page or obtained from the British Council.
Registration can be made either by post, by fax, or in person.
To register, complete the registration form and post/fax it with a copy of the candidate's identity document, such as HKID, birth certificate, and payment details. By post, you can pay by credit card or cheque, made payable to ‘British Council’, and sent to Examinations Services, British Council, 3 Supreme Court Road, Admiralty, Hong Kong.
Alternatively, you can deliver the form in person to our Customer Services at 3/F, British Council, 3 Supreme Court Road, Admiralty, Hong Kong, and pay by credit card, EPS, or cheque.
We regret that we cannot accept cash at Customer Services.

Special Needs
We aim to do our best to cater for candidates with special needs. We will do all we can to enable candidates to understand test questions and ways of giving answers. All candidates, irrespective of their disability, will be assessed fairly and objectively.
Candidates who require special arrangements are asked to contact us before they submit their application. Relevant supporting materials such as medical certificates should be submitted during registration.

Completed question papers are returned to Cambridge for marking. Each candidate who has attempted all examination papers is able to download his/her Statement of Results online approximately two months after the examination. An overall grade is given along with a candidate profile indicating the performance level on each examination paper, from Weak, Borderline, Good to Exceptional.

Certificates will be sent approximately three months after the examination. There are three passing grades – Pass with Distinction, Pass with Merit and Pass.
Grade Score CEF LevelWe send the certificate to the address provided on the application form by local courier. If you have an overseas address, we can send you the certificate by courier at a cost of HK$240. Alternatively, you can authorise a friend or relative to collect the certificate from our Customer Services Centre on your behalf at no additional cost.
Candidates wishing to enquire about their results must complete the Enquiry of Results form and fax the form to 2913 5172 (paid by credit card only) or mail it to British Council, 3 Supreme Court Road, Admiralty, Hong Kong.
Charges for result enquiries:
StageDeadline for submitting request for Stage 1 (clerical check) is 8 weeks after the examination and Stage 2 (re-mark) is 11 weeks after the examination.
All candidates wishing to request a re-mark must have completed, and received their results for, Stage 1 (clerical check) before requesting for Stage 2 (re-mark).
Where a candidate has already received a certificate for the examination for which they are requesting for Stage 2 (re-mark), the certificate must be returned to British Council, 3 Supreme Court Road, Admiralty, Hong Kong. Requests will not be processed until this has been received.
Outcomes for Stage 1 (clerical check) will be advised within 2 weeks of receiving the original request. All requests for Stage 2 (re-mark) will be acknowledged by return and outcome letters will be dispatched within 5 weeks.
Where an enquiry leads to a change of grade, any results enquiry fees paid will be reimbursed.

Certificates will be printed based on the names on the identity document. Misprinted certificates will be replaced free of charge within six months of the certificate being issued once British Council is notified within the six-month period. Candidates who have lost their original certificate may apply for a certifying statement. An administration fee of HK$440 will be charged. Application for a certifying statement must be made within 5 years after the examination. All candidates must complete the Replacement of Certificate form and fax the form to 2913 5172 (paid by credit card only) or mail it to British Council, 3 Supreme Court Road, Admiralty, Hong Kong.

The examination date is fixed globally. Once your application has been accepted, change of examination date and time is not permitted.
No refund will be made for cancellation of examinations unless on medical grounds. British Council will make a 50% refund of the examination fee provided that the candidate puts such request in writing and submits a medical certificate within THREE working days after the examination.
