  • to develop their receptive skills of listening and reading

Course Objectives

Your child will work towards achieving a number of learning outcomes. These relate to the way language is used in real life situations, and are designed to help them develop their language skills in practical ways.

By the end of the course, your child will be able to:

Reading Skills

  • read a number of texts for key points of comparison
  • scan a text for detail and infer meaning from context

Speaking Skills

  • complete a survey about leisure activities
  • make recommendations in a group discussion similar to Paper IV of the HKCEE
  • use an extended range of vocabulary to talk about a favourite place

Writing Skills

  • write a story about a personal past experience
  • collect relevant information and write a formal letter
  • write an informal letter to a friend using a wide range of vocabulary

Listening Skills

  • support their listening abilities by predicting content before listening
  • Listen to identify the speaker's attitude

Course Content

The course book is Cutting Edge Pre-intermediate. Focussing on the most relevant material from the book, the teacher will also supplement the course with other resources to ensure that lessons stimulate your child to learn.

Demonstrating Progress

Your child's progress is measured by continuous assessment. During the course the class teacher will set speaking, writing, reading and listening tasks in class.

Provided that your child has attended at least 75% of their classes per semester, they will receive a report on their progress and the areas they need to improve. A certificate will be issued at the end of the course.

Working in Partnership

We understand that you want to be involved in and support your child's learning. To this end we have created an outline of the Download PDF Document roles and responsibilities of all those involved in the learning process.
