About This Course

  • to activate and extend their knowledge of English
  • to develop their communicative skill of speaking
  • to develop their receptive skill of listening

Course Objectives

Throughout the course, students work towards achieving a number of learning outcomes. These relate to the way the language is used in real life situations and are designed to help them develop their language skills in practical ways.

By the end of the course, your child will be able to:

Speaking

  • have a discussion on a range of topics; give opinions, agree/disagree and ask for clarification/ repetition, take turns to speak and sound interested in a conversation
  • open and maintain a conversation naturally, using the appropriate level of formality
  • tell a personal anecdote about an event in the past
  • begin and end a conversation with someone on the phone
  • plan and make a presentation on a given topic

Listening

  • listen for the main idea
  • listen for specific information; such as filling in a form or responding to a questionnaire
  • express interest when listening to someone speak (be an active listener)
  • use context to predict information they might hear
  • identify common expressions/stages in a conversation when listening.
  • identify and use intonation to make the meaning clear

Course Content

The course book is Natural English (Intermediate). In order to achieve the learning outcomes, whilst focussing on the most relevant material from the book, the teacher will also supplement it with other sources, tapes and videos to make lessons as interesting and stimulating as possible.

Demonstrating Progress

Your child's progress is measured by continuous assessment. During the course the class teacher will set speaking and listening tasks in class.

Provided that your child has attended at least 75% of their classes per semester, they will receive a report on their progress and the areas they need to improve. A certificate will be issued at the end of the course.

Working in Partnership

We understand that you want to be involved in and support your child's learning. To this end we have created an outline of the Download PDF Document roles and responsibilities of all those involved in the learning process.
