Language Arts Workshops – FAQs

DO YOU TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE PROFICIENCY LEVEL OF MY STUDENTS?
As long as you give us a clear briefing of what the level is like at your school, we will select materials, tasks and gauge outcomes for students appropriately and in consultation with you.

DO YOU TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE SIZE OF THE CLASSES I HAVE TO TEACH?
Again, if you brief us clearly, we will select activities and tasks that can be used most effectively with larger or smaller class sizes.

HOW MUCH BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE OR CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE DO I NEED TO DO THESE COURSES?
The sessions require no previous knowledge or experience of using the language arts to teach English.

WILL IT BE A LECTURE?  WILL I BE ABLE TO DISCUSS IDEAS WITH COLLEAGUES?
Our workshops are practical and hands-on events where we demonstrate approaches, methods and techniques. We encourage constructive exchange of ideas and opinions between participants. A high level of involvement and openness to this approach will enable you to get the most from the workshop.

WILL I GET PHOTOCOPIABLE MATERIALS I CAN TAKE STRAIGHT INTO THE CLASSROOM?
You will receive materials that you will probably need to tailor for the students you are working with.  We can provide hard and some soft copies of materials.  We make use of internet resources and recommend books supporting practical classroom needs.

HOW WILL THE WORKSHOP DEAL WITH ASSESSMENT?
We suggest a variety of practical ways that you can assess your students, they can assess themselves, and each other.  We will concentrate on forms of formative assessment – providing learner-specific feedback during the course – in order for students to make systematic progress with your support.
