About This Course

Activates and extends your knowledge of English Grammar while developing your speaking, writing, listening and reading skills.

Course Aims

You will work towards the following learning outcomes:

  • describe experiences and tell an anecdote
  • write an imaginary story
  • express interest and surprise
  • talk about the future
  • write a report based on a class survey
  • describe a favourite part of a city

  • make deductions about the past and present

  • Overview of the English tense system
  • Present Perfect Simple and Continuous
  • Narrative tenses - Past Simple, Continuous and Past Perfect
  • Question tags
  • Future forms - Going to, Will, Present Continuous, Future Continuous and Perfect
  • Expressions of quantity
  • Relative clauses, participles and infinitives
  • Verb patterns
  • Modal auxiliary verbs (Will, Could, Must, May, Might)
  • Short questions and Question Tags
  • Indirect questions
  • Conjunctions
  • Present Simple / Continuous / Would / Will / Used to
  • Conditionals / Past Perfect
  • Noun phrases / Adding Emphasis

Course Content

The course book is New Headway Upper Intermediate. Your teacher will select the most relevant material from the book and supplement it to make lessons relevant and stimulating.

Demonstrating Progress

Your teacher will give you a number of assessed tasks based on the core objectives of the course. They will grade you for each task and from this, your homework and course tests, your teacher will be able to advise you about your progress and suggest a suitable course for the next semester. For semester B courses your performance and teacher’s recommendation will determine whether you move to the next level.

You receive an attendance certificate when you have completed your first term, and a report when you have completed both Term A and Term B as well as a course completion certificate if you attend at least 75% of lessons and complete assessments successfully.
