British Chevening Shorter Specialist Scholarships

The British Consulate-General has commissioned two intensive short courses in area relevant to Hong Kong’s future development. The Shorter Specialist Scholarships are full scholarships.

Journalism

There are two Chevening Scholarships for journalists. One is for a six-month research fellowship on the Reuter-Foundation Programme, University of Oxford and the other for a three-month intensive taught course at the University of Sheffield.

Reuters Foundation Programme at University of Oxford

One British Chevening Scholarship is available for a six-month research fellowship on the Reuters Foundation Programme at University of Oxford. Journalists with at least five years professional experience will take part in this well-established programme of seminars, personal research and visits to organisations and media institutions. Intensive Journalism Course at the University of Sheffield

One British Chevening Scholarship is available for a one-semester intensive post-experience journalism course at the University of Sheffield. Journalists with less than five years professional work experience will be considered for this option. Scholars can tailor-make a course from the modules available, which cover theoretical and hands-on practical modules. For more details please contact journalism@sheffield.ac.uk

Eligibility for Shorter Specialist Scholarships

Applicants MUST be:

1. Permanent residents of Hong Kong (SAR) or Macao

2. Not currently working or studying in the UK

3. Not in receipt of any other scholarship or award for the academic year

4. Scholars are expected to hold a good honours degree in a related subject and have good written and spoken English.  Scholars are expected to get a score of 6.5 or above in the IELTS language proficiency test, with no individual mark less than 6.5
