Starting Date for 2009-2010 Chevening Scholarships application. Information brochure available at the Customer Services Centre on 3/F of British Council and at student affairs offices of any of the Hong Kong universities and University of Macau. Application form can be obtained at this website. Your applications will be processed as soon as all requested documents are submitted.

All completed application forms with supporting documents should be returned to, Scholarships and Educational Exchanges Officer, British Council, 3 Supreme Court Road, Admiralty, by this date. Preference will be given to those applicants that have already secured a confirmed place at a UK Higher Education Institute.

Applicants must submit a copy of the IELTS test result with their application and those who have not taken the IELTS test in the past two years are required to attend the test.

Further information about the IELTS test may be obtained from the Customer Service Centre on the third floor of The British Council, Admiralty. Or contact the Examinations Services at 2913 5170. You may also visit the website at http://www.britishcouncil.org/hongkong-exams-ielts-testdates.htm.

Mid February 2009

Shortlisted candidates will be notified in writing by mid February 2009.

16 – 28 March 2009

Interviews will take place during March and selected candidates will be interviewed by representatives from the British Consulate-General and the Chevening Scholarships Board of Advisers and Board Associates. Interview results will be notified in writing by as soon as selection process is completed.  Successful candidates must return an acceptance form and medical form no later than the requested date.

1 May 2009

University placements MUST be secured. Please remember that unless stated, you are responsible for securing your own place on the course of your choice. Scholarships will not be awarded to candidates who have not had a university place CONFIRMED. You should also apply for university accommodation as soon as you can to avoid disappointment.

By the end of July you will hopefully be one of successful people selected for the scholarships. Reserve candidates will be notified of the outcome of their application by early August 2009. Reserve candidates who have not heard from the British Council by the end of August 2009 should consider their application unsuccessful.

July/August 2009

By the end of July, successful people selected for the scholarships will be informed of the result. Reserve candidates will be notified of the application outcome by 30 August 2009.

All successful candidates will be invited to a group pre-departure briefing.

August 2009

Each scholar will be arranged to have an individual briefing with the Scholarships and Educational Exchanges Officer. You will have the chance to discuss any issues concerning your scholarship and life overseas while we will pass on the official award letter, an advancement payment, a flight ticket and all necessary documents to you.
