Creative Links - the vocational education and training perspective
A total of 34 participants attended this event on 9 February, to share their insight and experience on a partnership approach between education policy makers, providers and employers to vocational education and training, with a focus on the creative industry. We were privileged to have two employers and four well-known educators from Hong Kong, together with three experienced speakers from the UK contributing to the event. They were: Henry Lui, Design Consultant of Rainfield Design Limited; Paul Chan, Chief Designer of Furniture Plus; Chris Wardlaw, Deputy Secretary of Education & Manpower Bureau; Dr Carrie Willis, Executive Director of Vocational Training Council; Peter Cheung, Executive Director of Hong Kong Council for Academic Accreditation; Dr Peter Hill, Secretary-General of Hong Kong Examination and Assessment Authority; Dr Ruth Silver, Principal of Lewisham College; Dr Will Bridge, Head of London College of Communication, University of the Arts London; and Andrew Carmichael, Director of the Creative Lewisham Agency.

Several concrete outcomes were generated as a result of the group discussions in the afternoon, which the British Council can now take forward in order to facilitate stronger links between HK and the UK.
To provide UK speakers with an overview of the vocational education and training sector in Hong Kong, visits to the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Chinese Cuisine Training Institute and IVE Sha Tin were arranged the day before the event. The UK speakers found the visits very useful and enjoyable.
